James Richard Nass Sr., "Red", 90, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at the Aurora Manor Nursing Center. He was born June 5, 1910, a birthday he proudly shared with his son and oldest grandchild.
A lifelong resident of Aurora, IL, he attended West Aurora schools. He married Cecile Jacobs on June 21, 1936. They had two children. During their marriage they enjoyed square dancing and dressing up for Halloween parties with their close friends. Red was an avid bowler and won the Aurora City Bowling Champion tournament in 1948.
He was employed by Richard Wilcox as a fire door fabricator for forty-six years. Upon his retirement he was a part-time guard at the Aurora Air Traffic Control Center.
During retirement he enjoyed his seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and his dog, Chippy. He also greatly enjoyed golfing with his friends from the Richard Wilcox 25 Year Club and the Tiger Club. Red held life memberships in the Tiger, Phoenix, Third Ward, Irish and Moose Lodge #1016 Clubs. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his son, James R. (Cecilia) Jr.; his daughter, Marjory Cleveland; grandchildren, Anne (Robert) Herrmann, James R. (Kathleen) Nass III, Mary Katherine Nass, Christopher (Carol) Nass, Jennifer (Charles) Rego, Amy (Jeffrey) Verbeke, and Robert Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Timothy, Kenneth and Rebecca Herrmann, Michelle, Stephen, Katrina, James R. IV, Spencer and Matthew Nass, Madeline and Alexandra Verbeke and Grace Rego; his brother, Clifford (Corrine) Nass; his sister, Marion (Oren) Wilcox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile on November 27, 1981; his parents, Richard Nass. and Mary Laycock ; a brother, Herman Nass, a sister, Gladys (Eggert) Kehl, and his son-in-law, Robert Cleveland.

Funeral from The Daleiden Lake St. Mortuary Saturday, August 12, 2000 at 9:00 AM to St. Peter Church at 9:30 AM. Father Ronald Jones will officiate with interment in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday,August 11, from 4-8 PM at The Daleiden Lake St. Mortuary, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora. (630) 898-8634.[1]
