Biography
Former Maniwaki Hotel Manager Dies
A well-known member of the municipal council of Eagan South, Maniwaki, and former Maniwaki hotel proprietor, Jean Baptiste Nault, died in Ottawa General Hospital, Monday after a brief illness. He was In his 77th year. Born and educated, at Bouchette, Que., he was a son of the late Joseph Nault and the former Albina Lepin. A parishioner of L' Assumption parish, Maniwaki, he was married at Bouchette In 1893 to the former Elmire Riopelle, who predeceased him in 1942. Extremely active during his lifetime, in business, municipal and parish activities at Maniwaki, he had been a member of the municipal council of Eagan South, Maniwaki, for 10 years at the time of his death. He was well known throughout the Maniwaki area as a hotel keeper from 1893 to 1924; also carrying on a general store business for some years. Keenly interested in parish work, he was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart and the Catholic Foresters, Surviving are one son, Ernest, Maniwaki; six daughters, Mrs. Hector Moore, Shipshaw, Que.; Mrs. Robert Hillicker, Mrs. Luke Willard, Mrs. Clifford Sauriault, Mrs. Daniel Murphy and Miss Gertrude Nault, all of Maniwaki. Also surviving are seven brothers, Adolphe, Joseph, James, Maniwaki; Frank, Messines, Que.; Elie, Ottawa; Solomon, Cadillac, Que., and Daniel, of Edmonton; two. sisters, Mrs. Noe Desautel, Maniwaki; Mrs. Gabriel Groulx, Cochrane; 37 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body will be at his late residence from Tuesday evening. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
