Sarah was born in Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire, England in 1841,[1] and was baptised there in St Mary's church on 5 May 1841.[2][3] She was the daughter of John Naylor and his wife Hannah, née Kelsey, who had been married at St Nicholas' church, South Ferriby, on 19 May 1840.[4][5][6]
