Thomas Chapman Naylor was born in Missouri, the son of Thomas Naylor and Sarah Storey,[1] but he moved with his family to the Oregon Territory in 1843[2] and then to Washington.[3]
In 1861 he enlisted in the Army at Fort Dalles. He was discharged three years later as a private in Troop H of the 1st Cavalry.[4]
On Feb 21, 1866, he married Catherine Alexander in Vernango County, Pennsylvania. By 1883 they had moved to Lewis County, Washington, where they raised five children and had a farm.[5][6][7][8]
