Dorothy Naylor was born in about 1834 in Wigan, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Robert and Mary Naylor.
By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Hackley Moss, Eccleston; Dorothy's father was a gas maker.
By March 30th 1851, Dorothy was a servant in the household of Thomas Spencer in Hackerley Moss, Eccleston; Thomas was an earthenware manufacturer.
By April 7th 1861, Dorothy was working as a servant for a bookkeeper named James Grundy and his family, at 9 Elizabeth Street, Liverpool.
Dorothy's sister Charlotte died in about 1868 (her death was registered in the first quarter of 1868).
Dorothy seems to have begun a relationship with Charlotte's widower, James Jenion, after her sister's death. Their daughter Ann Jane was born late in 1869 in Liverpool.[1] She was registered at birth in the manner of a child born in wedlock, but there appears to be no marriage registration for James and Dorothy in 1868-9 and indeed it would have been illegal for them to marry under the laws of the time.[2][3]
By April 2nd 1871, Dorothy was keeping house for James Jenion, in West Derby.
By April 3rd 1881, they were living in Harding Street, West Derby, Lancashire. James was a paviour.
By April 5th 1891, they were still in Harding Street, West Derby; James was a coal porter.
James died in 1893, aged 62, and was buried on 3 Dec 1893 in Toxteth Park Cemetery. His address was recorded as 26 Falkner St, his occupation as paviour, and his wife as Dorothy Jenion.[4][5]
By March 31st 1901, Dorothy was living with her married daughter Ann Jane (now going by the name of Jane), in Dove Street, Toxteth Park.
Dorothy died in 1910, aged 74, and was buried on 20 Dec 1910 in Toxteth Park Cemetery.
