George Neal was born on September 18, 1847 in Paw Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. His parents were John Neel and Jane Moore. He married Leatha Radden on August 02, 1867 Together they had 3 children:

  3. William Neal

He died on January 05, 1877 in Paw Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States.

George was a Confederate veteran. He lied about his age to get into the army (military records state that George was 18) and was assigned to the Company A, 11th North Carolina Infantry Regiment). He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg and retired to the invalid corps (his left arm being amputated).

George fathered three children before his untimely death in 1877 at the age of 29. His widowed wife, Leatha, never remarried.

George was buried at the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

A drop-leaf dining table George made after the war is in the possession of Pip Sheppard of Brevard, North Carolina.
