Biography

Sarah was born in 1790. She is the first born child and eldest daughter of John Neal and Mary Loe. Sarah was baptised on 13 September 1790 at Selborne.

Sarah married on 7 October 1813 to Robert Faithful at Selborne. They had 6 children during their marriage, William 1820, Robert 1822, Sarah 1826, John 1829, Edward 1833 and Henry 1835. Their daughter Sarah died as a result of drowning in April 1851. At the time she was living at the home of her Uncle Thomas Neal.

Robert Faithful (baptism 7 June 1791) was the son of Edward and Ann Faithful and worked as a Baker in Chawton, Hampshire.

On the night of the 1841 Census, Robert is away and Sarah is home in the Batts House (familysearch.org transcription) at Chawton with 5 of the children. The 1841 Census is illegible and the name of Sarah's home from the original census should be Butts Houses. (Likely situated on Butts Road, Alton)

Sarah is also apart from Robert at the 1851 Census with just son Henry living there. Sarah is now 61 and listed as a Pauper. Son Henry is working as an Errand Boy. Robert is resident in the Alton Union Workhouse. 1

He and Sarah later moved into the Church Street Alms House. Sarah is recorded as as 'Gardener's Wife', Robert a 'Gardener' and they're both in their early 70's.2. No Census results were found for Robert in 1841.

Sarah (Neal) Faithful predeceased Robert. Her death was registered at Alton, Hampshire.

Sarah Faithful was buried on 15 January 1869 aged 78 at Alton.

Robert died in 1871 aged about 80 and his death was registered at Alton in the Jan/Mar Quarter.
