Biography

Birth

Daniel was born on 11 May 1825, the son of Daniel Neale, weaver, and Sarah Kinder . He was baptized, along with his siblings, Thomas, Sophia, William and Edward, on 24 July 1836 by T. Dix at the Independent church in Bedworth, Warwickshire.[1][2]

1841 Census

He appears in the 1841 census in Bedworth, aged 16, a ribbon weaver, along with his parents, Daniel (35) and Sarah (41), and his siblings: Thomas (18), Sophia (14), William (10) and Frances (2).[3]

Marriage

On 30 May 1844 at Bedworth, he married Elizabeth Riley.[4] He was a weaver, as was his father Daniel, his wife Elizabeth and her father John. Neither Daniel nor Elizabeth could write; they signed the marriage register with their mark. The register was witnessed by Ephraim Hull and Mary Riley, also with their marks.

1851 Census

He appeared in the 1851 census in Bedworth Lane, Bedworth, Warwickshire, aged 27, a Hand Loom Silk Weaver. With him were his wife Elizabeth (aged 27), and son Thomas (6).[5]

1861 Census

He appeared in the 1861 census in Woodland Lane, Bedworth, aged 37, a Ribbon Weaver, along with his wife Elizabeth (38), and sons Thomas (16) and William (3).[6]

1871 Census

He appeared in the 1871 census in Bedworth, Warwickshire, aged 46, a Ribbon Weaver, along with his wife, Elizabeth (46), son William (12), daughter Fanny (6) and daughter Elizabeth (3).[7]

1881 Census

In 1881, he lived in Woodland Lane, Bedworth, aged 56, a Ribbon Weaver, along with his wife, Elizabeth (57) and Daughter Elizabeth (13).[8]
