OBITUARY. Mr. Josiah John Dridan, who died at Mayfield, Roseworthy, on Saturday, was born in Adelaide on July 28, 1841, and therefore nearly 83 years of age. When only eight years of age he accompanied his stepfather to the great rush in Victoria and the journey occupied over a month with bullock teams. He visited the Amphitheatre fields in the Avoca district about 20 years afterwards, and with an elder brother engaged in private sluicing operations upon an extensive scale.

As a youth he was farming on Yorke Peninsula and in other places, and worked in connection with the construction of the Adelaide and Port Adelaide railway. Subsequently for Messrs. Hill, Mills, and Fuler, he was in charge of the goods business at the Bowden Station. For many years Mr. Dridan was with Captain Henry Simpson, the well-known shipowner.

A few years ago with his younger sons, he engaged in horticulture at Mitcham and after the sale of the property to the Department of Agriculture removed to Crystal Brook where his sons farmed the Giltor property on the Rocky River. Upon disposing of this, the family purchased and removed to Mayfield.

Mr. Dridan endeared himself to a large circle of friends by his kindly and courteous ways. He read extensively, and was at all times interested in public questions. He was twice married, and is survived by his second wife, a daughter of Mrs. Edward Burgess, of Clarendon. There are four sons (Mr. S. J. Dridan, of Renmark, Mr. W. Dridan, of Paringa: and Messrs. J. J. and H. K. Dridan, of Roseworthy) and one daughter (Matron L. E. Dridan, of the Magill Home). A fifth son, Lieutenant V. G. Dridan, lost his life on service in France. '
