Birth & Upbringing: Steven was born in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia on 9 Apr 1957. He was raised by his parents, Peter and Max Needham, in the Inyanzura farming area in Manicaland. Steven had a brother Alan.
Family: Steven never married and had no issue.
Education: He was schooled in Inyanzura and then in Umtali at Umtali Boys High School. [1].
Military Service: The BSA Police was a para-military service during the height of the insurgency and much of its work was involved with the war effort.
Occupation: Policeman - He Joined the BSA Police in January 1976; Reg.No.9540; served until May 1979. Following Depot training, Steven was posted to Fort Victoria in the Victoria Province. He serve in Uniformed Branch, but was eventually seconded to Ground Coverage (intelligence) operations to assist Special Branch operations during the war.
Honours and Awards:
Demise: Killed in action - vehicle ambush- convoy while serving as a Patrol Officer with Duty Uniform in Birchenough Bridge (Operation Repulse).[2] [3].
Burial: Steven Needham was buried at the Inyanzura Cemetery. [1] [4]
