Matthew Negus was born in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England.

Matthew Negus was born on 21 Feb 1823 at Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England. Matthew was baptised on 6 Apr 1823 at Chatteris Isle of Ely. The entry shows that his parents were Thomas and Elizabeth, living in Chatteris and Thomas was a labourer. The ceremony was performed by John Haterand the curate.^[1] His parents were Thomas Negus and Elizabeth (Cooper) Negus.

In the 6 Jun 1841 Census Matthew was living at Mill End, Chatteris, North Witchford, Cambridgeshire. ^[2]

In the 30 Mar 1851 Census Mathew was living at Mill End, Chatteris, North Witchford, Cambridgeshire. ^[3]

Matthew married Mary Ann Dust on 28 May 1855 in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. The entry shows thay Matthew was aged 31, and his father was Thomas. Mary Ann was aged 24, and her father was Robert Dust. ^[4][5]

Matthew and Mary Ann had a daughter Mary Ann Negus on 29 Jul 1856 in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. Mary Ann was baptised on 17 Aug 1856 in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. The entry gives her DoB and shows that the family were living in Chatteris and that Thomas was a labourer. The ceremony was performed by M. A. Gathercote the vicar. ^{[6] [7]}

In the 7 Apr 1861 Census Matthew was living at Private House, Wenney End, Chatteris, North Witchford, Cambridgeshire. The transcription of the entry gives the surname as Nigers, but the record was clearly written as Negus. His wife's mother and brother are also incorrectly transcibed as Dutt and not Dust. ^[12]

Matthew and Mary Ann had a son Robert Negus in Q3 1861 in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. ^[13]

Matthew passed away aged 39 in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. ^[14]
