Biography

1. Mary L Nelson was born 21 Oct 1871 in Terre Hill, East Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA., the daughter of Martin Nelson, born in Terre Hill, and Fianna Habecker born in Lancaster County.^[1]

2. On 24 Dec 1893, Mary married Samuel F. Foltz, his second marriage,^[2] following the death of his first wife, Frances Susan Peters Foltz, in 1891.^[3]

3. Mary L. Nelson Foltz outlived her husband, and died on 24 Dec 1944 at 7:15 a.m., in Terre Hill, at age 73 years, 2 months and 3 days, from acute dilation of the heart and chronic myocarditis. She had an additional diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Mary was buried on 28 Dec 1944 in Terre Hill Cemetery, Terre Hill, East Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.^[4]

4. Mary's obituary reads: "Mrs. Mary Nelson Foltz. Mrs. Mary Nelson Foltz, seventy-three, died at her home in Terre Hill at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. A widow of Samuel Foltz, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Fianna Habecker Nelson, and was a member of Saint Paul's Evangelical Church, Terre Hill. Survivors include these brothers and sisters: Miss Minnie Nelson, of Terre Hill; Daniel and Harry, both of Reading; Hoyt Nelson, Reading and Miss Missouri Nelson, Terre Hill. Three grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held from the late home yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, with further services in Saint Paul's Evangelical Church, Terre Hill, at 2 o'clock."^[5]

5. Mary, her husband Samuel, and Samuel's first wife, Frances, all share a headstone at Terre Hill Cemetery. A 3-year old child is also listed on the stone: J. Howard Foltz, born 29 May 1884, died 25 Apr 1888.^[6]
