Mary Charlotte Nelson was born named Maria Charlotta Nilsson in Örebro län, Sweden on 11 Apr 1862. Her parents were Nil ____ and Christina Charlotta Carlsdotter.
At the age of 23, Maria C. Nilsson emigrated to the United States, and took up residency in Chicago, Illinois. At that time, Chicago had close to 100,000 Swedish immigrants, which would have made it the second largest city in Sweden.
At age 27, on 4 May 1899, Mary C. married Carl Oskar Fregd In Chicago, Illinois. They had eight children in 14 years.
She died on September 24, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 84, and was buried there.
