William married 2nd Mary (Hammans) Flinn or Flin (also her 2nd marriage) in Gloucester on January 26, 1720/21 by Rev. Tompson, their marriage intentions having been filed on January 7, 1720/21. Quoting an old hand-scribed marriage registry: "William Nelson and Mary Flinn both of this town were married January 26 1720/21 by the Rev'd Mr. Samuel Tompson, Pastor of ye 2nd CH in Gloucester."
William and Mary had the following children: James and Elizabeth (twins) b. November 27, 1722; Elizabeth b. December 2, 1724; and Agnes b. May 19, 1729. Mary also had a daughter named Mary (b. 1719/20) from her first marriage.
Mary passed away in Gloucester about 1739, leaving William a widower with at least two children remaining in his household, namely Elizabeth, about age 15, and Agnes age 10. William married 3rd Mrs. Deborah (Elwell) Carlisle on July 19, 1739 by Mr. White.
