Biography

Anne was born 1861 at Lochinvar [under NELSON in BDM she was the daughter of Christian Neilson and Dinah Taylor. Annie died at Denman in 1935. In 1885 she married Roscoe BARRY and they farmed at Jerry's Plains. She died aged 74 years at Martindale near Denman and was buried at Jerry's Plains cemetery with her husband Roscoe [no headstone].

Singleton Argus (NSW: 1880 - 1954), Friday 31 May 1935, page 6 MRS. ANNIE BARRY. DEATH OF MRS ANNIE ELIZABETH BARRY. The death occurred at 2 p.m. today of Mrs Annie Elizabeth Barry, of Martindale, relict of the late Roscoe Barry aged 75 years. The deceased was born at Lochinvar,and lived at Doyle' s Creek for many years, but for the past 10 years had resided at Martindale. Her husband predeceased her by 20 years and she is survived, by seven sons and four daughters, viz., Messrs Les (Martindale), Reg, and Robert (Jerry's Plains), Archie (Yarrawa), Len (Inverell), Maurice and Douglas (Martindale), Mesdames Alfred Allen (Doyle's Creek), G. Phillips (Tamworth), J. Myhill (Martindale), and T. P. Brown (Jerry's Plains). The funeral will leave Martindale at 12 noon tomorrow (Saturday) for the Church of England cemetery at Jerry's Plains.

Muswellbrook Chronicle (NSW: 1898 - 1955), Friday 7 June 1935, page 4 DEATH OF WIDELY-RESPECTED CITIZEN. The death of Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Barry, of "Oakdale," Denman, on Friday last severs still another link with the early pioneering days on the Hunter. The deceased lady was born at Lochinvar, on the Lower Hunter, on the 29th. April, 1861, being a daughter of the late Charles Neilson, well-known bridge contractor of that time. Later, she migrated to the Jerry's Plains district, where, in 1884, she married the late Roscoe Barry, of that place. Living there for many years they reared a large family of eleven children (all living). Her late husband predeceased her 19 years ago. During the last 10 years Mrs. Barry had lived with her sons at "Oakdale," Denman, and was 74 years of age when she died. Members of the family are:-Messrs. M.C., L.G., and D. A. Barry, of "Oakdale," A. W. Barry (Yarrawa); L. S. Barry (Inverell), R. R. and R. G. Barry (Jerry's Plains), Mrs. G. G. Phillips (Tamworth), Mrs, A. J. Allen (Jerry's Plains), Mrs. J. Myhill (Martindale), and Mrs. Tom Brown (Singleton). There are also 27 grandchildren. The burial took place at Jerry's Plains, the cortege being one of the largest ever witnessed at that place. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. E. Burkitt, of Denman. The chief mourners included Les, Reg., Robert; Archie, Leonard, Maurice and Douglas Barry (sons); Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Allen, Mr. and Mrs. J. Myhill and Mr. and Mrs. T. Brown (daughters and sons-in-law); Mrs. A. T. Withers (Sydney) sister; Messrs. J. and C. Neilson, of Singleton, Mr. E. Neilson, Jerry's Plains (brothers); Mr. S. Barry, of Jerry's Plains, Mr. J. Barry, of Denman, Mr. J. Bennett, of "Old Range" (brothers-in-law); Messrs. R. Withers, Sydney, H. V., F.R., W.N., and I. Barry (nephews); Mrs. W. Allen, Miss S. Barry and Mrs. S. J. Bennett (nieces); Mesdames R. R.. R.G., A.W., L.S., M.C., and D. A. Barry (daughters-in-law).
