Biography

The son of Andrew Nelson and Sarah (Luker) Nelson, Floyd was born in West Point, Tennessee^{[citation needed]} in 1894, when Civil District 12 was part of Wayne County, residing there with his family.^[1]In 1910,West Point was enumerated in Civil District 8.^[2]

Floyd registered for the World War I draft when he was 22 registering in West Point, Tennessee on June 5, 1917.^[3] He stated that he lived in West Point, Tennessee and that he was engaged in farming. Floyd was described as a tall, stout man with black hair and brown eyes; he did not enlist.

In 1920, Floyd lived in West Point with his parents, working as a farm laborer on his father's home farm. His marital status is marked as "married," either an error on the part of the census enumerator or reflecting a marriage that began after1917 and ended before 1920.^[4] His father passed away in 1924 and in 1930, Floyd and his widowed mother lived in West Point with his sister, Gladys, who had married Arthur Caperton.^[5]

Floyd married Lorene Beatrice (Wayland) Nelson, marrying in Lawrence County, Tennessee on December 21, 1930^[6] and taking up residence together in Collinwood, Tennessee, farming.^[7][8]

Floyd Nelson passed away in Wayne County, Tennessee^{[citation needed]} at the age of 85^[9] and is buried with his family at Bethlehem Cemetery in Wayne County, Tennessee.^[10]
