Oswald (ozzie) Nelson was born March 20, 1906 the second son of George Waldemar and Ethel Irene (née Orr) Nelson. Ozzie was raised in Ridgefield Park where he was active in Scouts obtaining the Eagle Badge at age 13. Ozzie played football for Ridgefield Park High School as well as for Rutgers University in College.
Ozzie entered Rutgers School of Law at Newark Playing Saxophone to pay for School, however, when the depression occurred he started Music full time.
Ozzie had some limited success as the band leader for the Ozzie Nelson Band. In 1930 Ozzie made his "own Big Break"
In October 1935 Ozzie married Harriet Hilliard who was the Bands Vocalist and they had two sons David and Eric "Ricky".
In the 1940's Ozzie was looking for a way to spend more time with his family. So they created the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet in which the family played themselves.
In 1973 Ozzie created his biography "Ozzie" Prentice Hall, 1973, ISBN 0-13-647768-2). After being affected by recurring malignant tumors later in life Ozzie passed away at his home with his wife and children June 3, 1975 of Liver Cancer. Ozzie was buried in Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, California alongside his wife and youngest son. Ricky
