Biography

Parmelia Adeline Nelson, often known as "Minnie," was born in about 1864 or 1865, probably in Cass county, Iowa. No contemporary record has yet been found, and later census and other records are inconsistent in their recording of her place of birth. However, her family seems to have been residing in Cass county at that time. Her parents were Orran Dwight Nelson and Maria Dianna Soper.

Minnie married David William Everett on 20 May 1882 in Griswold, Cass, Iowa.[1] They had at least one child together, Florence, who was born in 1884. Presumably David Everett had died by 1889, as Minnie was remarried in that year.

She married E. E. Hoyt in Cumberland, Cass, Iowa, on 27 Oct 1889.[2] They had seven children. The family lived in a number of locations around the American Midwest.

At the time of the birth of their first child, Isabell Gertrude, in 1890, they were residing in Savannah, Andrew, Missouri.[3] By the 1900 census they had relocated to Edna Township, Cass, Iowa.[4]

Tragically, on 4 Oct 1943, she was trying to start the fire in the cook stove, "using fuel oil to hurry it along. An explosion followed, igniting the woman's clothing." She suffered second and third degree burns, and passed away in the hospital the following day.[5]
