Biography

Master Clockmaker. John Nethercott seems to have been one of life's failures. He was born in long Compton, Warwickshire and in 1726 was working in Chipping Norton. In that yerar the Baliffs and Burgesses issued a removal order for him and his family to be sent back to Long Compton, indicating that he was unable to support his family and was likely to become a burden on the Parish rates. In 1763 he hung himself. Three of his clocks are in private hands and one is in the History of the Museum of Science in Oxford.
