Biography

Sir Henry Neville of Billingbeare, Berkshire, Knight

Henry Neville son of Sir Henry Neville and Anne Killigrew was born in 1588 at Mayfield Sussex.[1][2][3][4]

Henry Nevill of Berkshire was knighted on 30 Mar 2009 at Whitehall.[5]

Marriage

Sir Henry Nevile married mistress Elizabeth Smith on 02 May 1609 at St Margaret Lothbury, City of London.[6]

In the Smith Pedigree in the Visitation of Kent 1619-1621[7] he was recorded as Henry Nevill of Billingbeare, Berkshire, knt, husband of Elizabeth, daughter of John Smyth of Ostenhanger and Elizabeth Fineux.

In the Nevill Pedigree in the Visitation of Berkshire in 1665-1666[2] he was recorded as Sir Henry Nevill son of Sir Henry Neville and Anne, daughter of Sir Henry Killegrew of Cornwall. He had married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Smith of Ostenhanger, Kent. There were five children noted in the pedigree: Richard, Henry, Katherine, Mary, and Philippa.

Death

He died on 29 June 1629 and was buried the following day in the church of St. Lawrence, Waltham, Berkshire.[1]

He settled Billingbear at Waltham St Lawrence on his wife, Elizabeth, for her life.[14]

Elizabeth married second Sir John Thorowgood of Clerkenwell.[2]

Summary of the Will of Sir Henry Neville, Kt, 1629

In his will dated 01 Jun 1629, acknowledged 24 Jun, and proved 07 Jul 1629, he was recorded as "Henry Nevill of Billingbeare in the countie of Barks Kt".[4] His will was to be buried in Lawrence Waltham church.

He made bequests to:

  • his sons Richard and Henry Neville
  • his daughters Katherine, Mary and Phillipp Neville
  • Mistress Barbara Billingsly
  • his brother Willian Nevill Esq. Chancellor of Chichester

He nominated as his Executors his brother Willian Nevill and his son Richard Nevill.
