Birth
Cornelius New was born in Evesham, Worcestershire, England around 1803. [1] He was the son of Thomas New and Mary Pratt.[2] On Cornelius' death certificate the informant has recorded his mother's name as "Susan Pratt".[3]
Marriage
It is recorded on his death certificate that he married Rebecca Redding at the age of 21 years at Worcestershire, England. [4]
1843 Arrival in Australia
Cornelius New arrived in Australia on the Troubadour which left Liverpool, England on the 13th of February 1843 and arrived in Sydney on the 12th of June 1843. The Troubadour was a cargo ship carrying only 18 passengers. It was not an immigrant ship. Reported in the Syndey Herald 13th June 1843 were the arrival of the Troubadour and a list of the passengers on board which included Mr. and Mrs. New and two children.[5] The 1975 history of the village of Dunedoo, NSW states that Cornelius and Rebecca New and children Thomas and Emily arrived in the colony to join relatives who already resided here.

The old pub was kept by Tom and Cornelius New. Tom's father, Cornelius, was "a remarkable old man, very active for his age and known to everyone as 'Old Corney New'. The hotel was first named the "Welcome Inn" and became the "Talbragar Hotel" in 1871. The name of Cornelius New has been recorded in the book as a known Innkeeper and Publican of the Welcome Inn.[9]
Death
He passed away at Warren, New South Wales on the 8th of February 1889. The informant was his son, Thomas, also from Warren, New South Wales. It is recorded on the death certificate that he had resided in the Colony for 50 years.[10]
Burial
Cornelius New was buried on the 9th of February 1889 in the Warren General Cemetery, Warren, New South Wales, Australia. [11] [12]
