Mary was born in 1851 the daughter of Thomas Newberry and Elizabeth. She was christened in Preston Capes, Northampton on 2 November 1851. [1]
She emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand on the "Emma Colvin" in 1856.
Mary married Harry Batt on 30 December 1873 at Spring, Grove, Nelson. The marriage record for Mary Newberry has her husband mis-transcribed as Harry Ball, but the Nelson Evening Mail announcement clarifies that this is the correct marriage. [2][3]
