Biography
James was born about 1829 at Holwell, and baptised on 24 December 1831 at Ickleford, Hertfordshire, the son of Thomas Newberry and Mary Oakley. [1]
He was living with his widowed mother in 1841 in Cadwell, Holwell, Beds - Mary Newberry 45 Not born in county ie not born in Beds;William Newberry 30 Born in county; Sarah Newberry 24 Not bic; Mary Newberry 15 Bic; Thomas Newberry 13 Bic; James Newberry 11 Bic; Jane Newberry 9 Bic; Maria Newberry 1 Bic.[2]
He married Martha Cannon on 5 Sep 1849 at Hitchin, Herts. James of Hitchin Hill, and Martha of Walsworth. James' father is shown as Joseph, surely an error - there are no Josephs with a son James born Holwell.[3]

They were living at Charlton, Hitchin, Herts in 1861 - James Newberry head marr 32 Bricklayer's lab b Holwell; Martha Newberry wife 33 b Hitchin; George Newberry son 13 b Hitchin; Eliza Newberry dau 1 b Hitchin.[5]
He died age 40 in the December quarter 1868 in Hitchin registration district.[6]
