Birth and Early Life

Stephen Newby was born in Wicklow, Co. Wicklow, Ireland on 11 May 1678.[1] He emigrated to New Jersey, presumably with his father in 1681.

Marriage

He married Elizabeth Wood in September 1703 in New Jersey:

At a monthly meting held at ye house of Thomas Shack(?) the __ of ye 7th mo 1703, Stephen Newby & Elizabeth Wood ye second time declared there intentions of taking each other in marridge & the meeting have received satisfaction from ye persons appointed to make enquiroy after there bannes, therefore they give there consent to ye accomplishment of there said marridge according to there conniney & ye good order amongs friends established.[2]

Death and Legacy

Abstract of will:

1706, Nov. 2. Newby, Stephen, of Newton, Gloucester Co.; will of. Wife ___. Son Marck (under age), daughter Hanna. Real and personal estate. The wife sole executrix. Witnesses--Simeon Breach, Judith Willard, Thomas Sharp. Proved March 18, 1706-7. Lib. I, p. 269. 1706 Nov. 23. Inventory of the personal estate (£166.19.5, incl. the reversion of 1-10 of a share £10) ; made by John Kay and Thomas Sharp.[3]
