There is still room to question this but Eliza's father's name, from her marriage certificate, was John. Only one of the Eliza Smith's born in Stepney between 1850 and 1852 has father John. I have viewed PDFs of the birth certificates. This Eliza Smith has mother's maiden name Newburn. Eliza's marriage certificate was witnessed by a Thos. Jas. Smith. There is a Thomas James Smith with mother's maiden name Newburn born in 1842, recorded Strand Union. In 1851 Census there is a family father John Smith, mother Mary Ann and children including Thomas James and Eliza. Mary Ann is recorded as born in Shadwell.
