Elizabeth was born 14 Mar 1820, North Carolina, daughter of James Newman and Rosannah Beeson.

Elizabeth married Milton Hinshaw 27 Aug 1842, Guilford County, North Carolina. Milton, son of William Hinshaw and Loruhamah Beeson, was born Feb 9 1821, Marlborough MM, Randolph County, North Carolina. To this union were born:
