Civil War Veteran: Private, Co. B, 111th Regiment, Illinois Infantry.
Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company B, 111th Illinois Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 14, 1864 at Resaca, Georgia. His citation reads "Voluntarily returned, in the face of a severe fire from the enemy, and rescued a wounded comrade who had been left behind as the regiment fell back."
Occupation: Farmer.
Note: He and his first wife Priscilla must have gotten a divorce before 1882 when he married his second wife Nancy. Priscilla died in Kentucky, near their daughter Effie.
