Isaac was the son of Jesse Newman of Carroll County, Virginia. He is listed on the 1850 US Census, along with his father and siblings: Robert, David, Alexander, Margaret, and Nancy.
Isaac married Mary Sarah "Sallie" Spencer (who later married Francis McCraw) in 1852, with consents by Samuel Spencer and Jesse Newman.
Their children were:
Nancy
Stanford
Sarah C
George W., b 28 Oct 1861
On the 1860 US Census, his wife Sarah is living next door to her parents, but alone with children: Nancy, aged 7, Stanford, aged 4, and Sarah C, aged 2. Presumably, Isaac died before September 1860, but Nancy's son, George W. Newman, was born Oct 28, 1861. How could that be? Perhaps George W. was the son of Francis McCraw and the census taker made an error.
