Born 13 Jan 1848 in Albany, Gentry, Missouri, USA. She was the daughter of Jacob A Newman and Mary Polly Cannon.
She Married Charles Crockett Steele on 22 Sep 1869 in Albany, Gentry, Missouri, USA. The were the parents of the following children who grew to aduldhood: Edward, Enoch, Benjamin, Charles, John, LaFayette, and Reece Steele.
In 1880 she and her family lived in Athens Township, Gentry County, Missouri.[1]

Buried 18 Mar 1926 at Shepherd Cemetery, Albany, Gentry, Missouri, USA[2]
From Mary Jane Newman Steele's Widows Pension Application: 'she was married under the name of Mary Jane Newman to said soldier at Albany MO on the 22nd day of September, 1868, by Squire Ballis Claver, that there was no legal barrier to the marriage; that she had not been previously married; tthat the soldier had not been previously married and that neither she nor said soldier married otherwise than as stated above.'
