Ellen Newman, daughter of Thomas and Rhoda (Joy) Newman, was born on December 28, 1836 at Gouldsboro, Maine, died on July 6, 1912 at Swan’s Island, and was buried at ‘Rose Hill’ Cemetery.

Joseph W. Staples, son of Capt. Abel and Rebecca (Whitmore) Staples, was born on October 20, 1833 at Swan’s Island, Maine, died on April 2, 1899 at Swan’s Island and was buried at ‘Rose Hill’ Cemetery.

Joseph married Caroline Stinson on December 24, 1855 at Deer Isle, Maine.
