Biography

Sarah Newman and George Woolley Sr. were both born in England and came to Canada when two young people. They met in Toronto, Ontario and were married there on Dec. 2, 1866. They resided for a time in Howick, Qc. and Muskoka, Ontario . A short time after the birth of their son William (born 1868 in Muskoka) they returned to England where their daughter Olive was born. (1879, Skegby, Nottinghamshire) They returned to Canada when Olive was 4 years old and settled in Cookshire. Born of this union were four sons and two daughters. Sarah and her husband George Woolley Sr. were featured in an article "Sketches of Aged People in the Eastern Townships" (Sherbrooke Daily Record, Thurs. March 10, 1927) as being perhaps the oldest couple Cookshire has had, she age 90 and he age 88. Sarah died before her husband on December 15, 1927.
