Bennie was born on November 25, 1885 at Black Creek in Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Ezekiel Newport and Margaret Shoemaker. He married Ellania Duncan on January 25, 1904 in Scott County. He worked as a farmer and a logging contractor. Bennie passed away from malnutrition due to cancer of the esophagus on November 10, 1955 at New River in Scott County.

NEWPORT, BENNY died 10 Nov 1955, Benny Newport, age 69, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10 at his home in New River, following an extended illness. He was a member of the Low Gap Baptist Church, a splendid citizen and had many friends in the county. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Newport, 3 sons, Emmett and Edmund Newport of New River, Enmon Newport of Stearns, Ky.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Alonzo Chitwood and Mrs. Gene Stewart of New River, 4 brothers, John M. and B. C. Newport both of New River, Freeman Newport of Chattanooga and Henry Newport of Cincinnati; 1 sister, Mrs. Edna Byrd of Oneida. 23 grandchildren. 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at the Low Gap Baptist church with the Revs. L. M. Jeffers and Carl Jeffers officiating. Burial followed in the Newport cemetery. West in charge.
