Arta was born on December 30, 1877 at New River in Scott County, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Alvison Newport and Mary Long. She married Bailey C. Thompson on May 10, 1895 in Scott County. She passed away on September 21, 1970 at Maryville in Blount County, Tennessee.
