This entry William Newport son of Samuel Newport and Martha Styles has been removed from incorrect allocation to Samuel Newport as this father has been disproven through death prior to William's baptism.
To date the only source, beyond the ubiquitous ' England Selected Births & Christenings 1538 – 1975' used on original entry, has been tracked to Family Search, where the series source is described as urn:familysearch:source:2032001114 There are no baptism records attached to either of the alleged parents.
As the Newports are under active reconstruction the attachment of William to Martha Styles remains, in the absence of sufficient sources.
Unsuccessful preliminary searches (3 Sep 2020) of Family Search, Ancestry.com, Find My Past, The Genealogist. My Heritage lists on many Family Trees, but no vital sources identified and many circular references. A challenge!
There is a William Newport baptised in 1795, son of Samuel Newport and Caroline Bradley. It is possible that the suggestion of 1778 baptism was a further conflation issue. Current process is to document the Newports of Buckinghamshire systematically, so this may highlight the final resolution for William Newport's parents and date of birth.
UPDATE: On further research it seems that this William Newport(Newport-600) actually represents William Newport. The reason for this is the discovery that William Newport married Elizabeth Callaway. Whereas the William Newport on this profile is listed as marrying an Elizabeth Conway, a further transcription error in previous materials.
In summary; conclusion that unsourced William Newport (1778 - ) was actually sourced William Newport (1795- ) and unsourced Elizabeth Conway (1778- ) was actually Elizabeth Callaway (unknown birth date). The unsourced marriage of 26 May 1797 is actually sourced marriage of 26 May 1812. [1] or 26 May 1813 at Hughenden, Buckinghamshire, England [2] Prefer 1813 date due to proximity of birth of first child.
William Newport (1778 - ) will be delinked from Martha Styles as mother. In due course merge will be proposed with William Newport
Elizabeth Conway (1778- ) will be edited appropriately as partner of William Newport (1795- ) [3] and in due course request for change of LNAB will be made.
Apologies to profile manager for creation of a second William Newport. The dates and marriage evidence[4][5]were so variant to the findings that conflation was not seen for either of William or Elizabeth.
