I, John Newton of Barre’s Court ... being of good mind...bequeath my soul to
Almighty God my maker and redeemer, that through the death of his dear son, I
shall obtain pardon and forgiveness of all my sins... faith in his blood ... the only
oblation offered being sufficient ...for the sins of the whole world.
He left money for the maintenance of the parish church of East Harptree and
directed that his body should be buried in the church when it shall please Almighty
God to call me out of this transitory life.
At the time of making this will, six of his daughters were unmarried. In the event of
them still being unmarried at the time of his death, he left each of them £100.
