Sarah Ann Newton was born in 1846 in Brighton, Sussex, England to George Newton and Alice (Batchelor) Newton. Her birth was registered in Brighton in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Batchelor.[1]
In 1851 Sarah A Newton (age 4) lived at Tottenham Street in Saint Pancras, Middlesex with her father George (39, Shoe Maker), mother Alice (35), and three siblings: George (6), Alice (2), and Frederick (0).[2]
In 1861 Sarah L Newton (age 15, Shoe Binder) lived at Frederick Terrace in Brighton with her father George (50, Ladies Shoemaker), mother Alice (45, Shoe Binder), and five siblings: George (17, Ladies Shoemaker), Alice (12, Scholar), Frederick (10, Scholar), Charles (9, Scholar), and William (5, Scholar).[3]
Sarah had one son before she was married: Charles Henry Newton (1867-1941), he sometimes used her husband's surname after she married.
In 1871 Sarah Newton (age 24, Domestic Servant) lived in Brighton with her son Charles H (3, Scholar), they were visitors in the household of Thomas H Robey.[4]
Sarah Ann Newton married Alfred Punchard in 1876. The marriage was registered in Brighton in the second quarter of the year.[5]
In 1881 Sarah Punchard (age 36) lived at Nelson St in Brighton with her husband Alfred (37, Fly Driver), eight children: Alfred (14), Charles (13), Frederick (10), Alice (9), Harry (7), Lousia (3), Florie (2), and Anna (0), as well as lodger Catherine E Brigland (33).[6]
In 1891 Sarah Punchard (age 46) lived at Spring Gardens in Brighton with her husband Alfred (48, Cab Proprieter) and eight children: Charles (25, Cab Driver), Frederick (22, Cab Driver), Louisa (15, Help House Duty), Harry (14, Scholar), Florry (12, Scholar), Bertie (10, Scholar), Annie (8, Scholar), and Jessie (6, Scholar).[7]
Sarah's husband Alfred Punchard passed away in 1891.
In 1901 Sarah Punchard (age 54) lived at Spring Gardens in Brighton with four of her children: Harry (25, Cabman), Annie (20), Bert (18, Cabman), and Jessie (17).[8]
In 1911 Sarah Ann Punchard (age 65) lived in Brighton with her daughter Annie (30) and son Bert (28, Horse Cab Driver).[9]
Sarah A Punchard passed away in 1927, aged 80 years. Her death was registered in Steyning, Sussex in the first quarter of the year.[10]
