Biography

When Sarah Alice Newton was born in June 1872 in Hickman, Tennessee, her father, Gilbert, was 22, and her mother, Eliza, was 16. She married William Osborn Rochelle in 1885. They had five children in 12 years. She had one sister.

The daughter of Eliza (DeFoe) Neeley and her first husband, Gilbert P. Newton, Sarah was born in Sumner County in 1872.^[1] Her father passed away and her mother remarried, marrying James Neeley. Sarah married William Osborn Rochelle (1858-1940), the son of Tapley Wyatt Rochelle and Eliza Jane Rhodes, marrying in 1885.^[1] Their children included:

2. Lillie Arleen (Rochelle) Barnhill (1892-1925)^[1]
3. William Arch Rochelle (1894-1971)^[1]

They made their home in Civil District 2 of Hickman County, Tennessee.^[2]She passed away before 1906,^{[citation needed]} the year her husband remarried.
