I William L Newton of Green County and commonwealth of Ky being sickly and weakly of body but perfect sound mind memory and understanding Thanks be to God first knowing the uncertainty of this life and that is appointed onst for all men to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say first of all I bequeath my soul to a mighty God That gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in Christian manner as by Executors hereafter named may think fit and as for what worldly goods hath blessed me with in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner, viz
Item 1 My will and desire in the first place that all my just debts be paid
Item 2 I give an bequeath to my loving wife Mary Newton all my whole estate both real and personal during her single life and if she should see cause to marry after my death my will and desire is that she may take one third part of said estate
Item 3 I give and bequeath to my eight children at the death or marriage of my wife to be equally divided among them all, except Martha Ann Newton which I give one dollar to freely possess and enjoy by them forever, having given Martha Ann her full part of my estate.
Item 4th Last of all I appoint John B Hayden and Lewis J Spaulding the whole and sole administrators of this my last will and testament, dis_____ all other will or wills by made declaring this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I leave set my hand and affixed my seal this 31 day of August 1838. (Signed with seal by Wm L Newton)
