Levi Newton was born in the third quarter of 1884 at Knowstone, Devonshire, England.^[1] He was the youngest of three sons born to Eli Newton and Mary Ann Cockram He was the only one in the family born at Knowstone, his brothers were both born in Exford, Somerset. He is mentioned on the 1891 census, as a six year old scholar, living with his parents and two brothers at Hamlet Cottage, Knowstone.^[2] Levi died at the age of 16 on April 1, 1901 at Knowstone. ^[3]
