Joan was born in 1817, the daughter of Benjamin Newton and Janet Hogg. She was baptised on the 13 November 1817 at Prestonkirk, East Lothian, Scotland.[1]
On the 28 May 1842, Joan Newton married Thomas Dickson at Prestonkirk, East Lothian, Scotland.[2]
