Note NI62Mary Newton probably married Simeon Haigh sometime in 1815, since their first child, Elizabeth, was born on 5 May 1816. Family tradition says that they were married in an Episcopal Church in New York, but no official record of their marriage has yet been found.

There is disagreement as to her actual date of death. Her obituary states that she died on 9 Jan 1865, as does the entry in the family Bible. The cemetery records of New Cumberland, West Virginia, however say that she died on 8 Jan 1865.

Died at the home of her son-in-law, J. H. Atkinson, who was married to her daughter, Melissa.
