Biography

Jean Baptiste Nicholas was born in July, 1844 in Louisiana[1] to Francois Nicholas and Mary (Unknown) Nicholas.[2] By the time Jean was 5, his mother was widowed. She married Marcelin Folse, and by his 16th birthday, she was widowed again.[3][4]

Jean Baptiste enlisted in the CSA servings as a private in Company G, 30th (Sumter) Regiment, for Louisiana.[5]

He married 1) Exaltine Rousselle. Together they became the parents of Heloise Nicholas, Francois Nicholas, Natalie Nicholas, Jean Baptist Nicholas Jr., and Anatole Nicholas.

He married 2) Cecile Roguime on Apr. 3, 1886 in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana.[6] Together they became the parents of Irma (Nicholas) St. Pe, Vincent Nicholas, Henry Nicholas, Maxime Nicholas, Leon Nicholas, and Annette Nicholas.

Jean Baptist died in 1901 and his grave is reportedly lost.
