Biography

Amos H Nichols, sometimes Nicholds or Nicholas, was born about 1794 in Virginia to parents Mathias Nichols and Margaret Caldwell.

He married Rachael McConahey, also spelled McConaha, on 22 June 1820 Muskingum County, Ohio by Justice of Peace Absalom Roberts. The groom's name was spelled NICHOLLS, the bride was b c 1804 Ohio.

There were at least 7 children;

Minerva Nichols b c 1823 OH, married Henry Blake on 2 Oct 1849 Muskingum Co, Ohio and they can be found in Taylorsville, Muskingum Co 1860 census

Rebecca Jane "Becky" b c 1826 OH who married John Farris

Andrew Jackson Nichols b 1829 in Eagleport, Muskingum Co, OH and married Caroline Blake. He died 1904 and was buried in Duncan Falls Cemetery in Muskingum Co, OH

Caleb Nichols b 1834 in Ohio and died 1864, burial in Philo Cemetery in Muskingum Co, OH

Mounts Nichols b 1835 OH and may have died in the civil war, 1864 burial in Philo Cemetery, Muskingum Co, OH

David Edward Nichols b 27 April 1836 in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio and buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Zanesville. He married Lydia A Nichols, relation unknown.

Susan Nichols b 12 Nov 1846 Muskingum Co, OH. She married James H Doran on 24 Feb 1870 in Ohio. Susan died 20 Nov 1921 in Zanesville, Oh and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.

In the 1850 census their children at home are; David b c 1834, Coble [Caleb] b c 1836, Moritz b c 1838, Susan b c 1844 and daughter Rebecca Jane who is married to John Pharis [Farris] and their two children Lewis age 4, John R age 3 months. Amos and Rachel cannot read or write.

In the 1860 census; Taylorsville, Muskingum Co, OH; Rachel Nichols widow 57 OH, David 25, Mounts 21, Susan 16. Next door son Jackson Nichols 29, his wife Caroline 28 and their 3 children.
