Biography

Linda was born 3 Mar 1961 in Houston. She is firstborn of four children of Robert Nichols and JoAnn McCammon.[1]

Linda has dabbled in genealogy for almost 40 years, although she only became a serious researcher about 15 years ago. Both of her parents had only half-siblings and both passed away when she was young. She learned from her father that she had a half sister from his first marriage, and her 30 year search for that sibling is what started her on this journey.

After finally finding some of her Dad's half-brother's children, Linda was given a picture of her dad as a very young man. She posted that photo on Ancestry, and through it, her half-sister's daughter found her! They have a good relationship now; though they are many miles apart, they have visited each other and keep in touch .

Some years ago Linda discovered on a document that her paternal grandfather was illegitimate, and now her journey takes her to discover who fathered him, as well as tracing his mother's Nova Scotian Nichols line. Both are proving quite challenging and mysterious!

(UPDATE: The paternal line is proven, by DNA, to be Poirier. Other surnames in the line are Arsenault and Gallant.)

Linda is happy to contribute what she knows, but as there are known errors in her Ancestry tree, she is choosing to start from scratch here. Ancestry UN is LindaNM5. She also has a tree on Family Search.

Known Family names include Nichols and Hatfield in Atlantic Canada- Collins and O'Connor/Connors from Ireland and Essex, Mass. - Merrell and Bradford from the Colonial era and McCammon and Ford from Penn. and Indiana.

Surnames connected to her brick wall mysteries are Nichols, Rogers, LeBlanc, Poirier and Gallant.
