Death & Burial

On 19 Oct 1959 at 6:30 p.m. in Durham, North Carolina, Lyda Ruth Nichols Knight was walking on a street when she fell down and died. She was 59 years old. She was taken by ambulance to Duke Medical Center but was DOA. The medical examiner performed an autopsy and determined the immediate cause of death was an aneurysm of the middle cerebral artery; which was caused by a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and acute pulmonary edema. This is a type of stroke caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain.

From reading the document it appears that she was outside on the street when she fell down unconscious. The informant on the certificate of death was her husband, M P Knight, 220 Knox Circle, Durham, NC

Her remains were laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Plot: Section 12, in Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, USA. A Find-A-Grave memorial has been created for her.
