Biography

Jonas Nichols was born in November 1758 to parents Samuel Nichols and Anna Stevens. In one of the sources below, the date 26 Nov 1758 is given as the baptism date. More work needed to clarify. Originally this profile had Vermont as his place of birth but the sources point to Rutland, Worcester Co, Massachusetts with him moving to Vermont at a later date.

In 1800 Guilford, Windham County, Vermont, Jonas appears age 26-44 with a wife and children. Also enumerated in the same area were Paul Nichols over 45 and Ephraim Nichols (Jonas' brother) age 26-44.

In 1810, Jonas is in Halifax, Windham County, Vermont age 45 and over. It appears a wife and children are living with him.

Jonas Nichols died in Lake County, Ohio on 1 April 1843 and buried at the Perry Cemetery, Perry twp, Lake County, Ohio. More work is needed to find his wife's name and vitals.
