Mary Jane Montgomery^[1] might be the daughter of Nancy Montgomery, who is living next door to Mary Jane's husband in 1850.^[2] I can't be sure of it, but lastname and age would fit, if both Nancy and Mary Jane became mothers at a young age. This would mean Mary Jane would have been born about 1820.

Mary Jane marries William Nichols in Pennsylvania.^[3]. Their first child Nancy Nichols is born about 1837, so I assume they married shorty before her birth about 1836.

They have another daughter, Launda Nichols, who is born about 1839.

1840 This might be the right William, eventhough the last name is Nicholson here, the ages of the family members match. There was no other William Nichols listed in Pennsylvania at this time, married with two little girls. They are listed in Young Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.^[4]

Over the next years Mary Jane and William have two more daughters: Lauretta Nichols, born about 1842, and the youngest Adaline Nichols.

Adaline remembers her childhood years in the 80 year anniversary edition of the Keosauqua Republican (Page 107, published Thursday August 15, 1935):^[5] "I was born May 17, 1844, in Crawford county, Pennsylvania. I was the youngest of four children, all girls. My mother died soon after I came into this world and my father was left without a housekeeper. When I was five years old I with my father and sisters, moved in a covered wagon from Pennsylvania to Avon, Ill. We were there only a short time when my father returned with we children to Pennsylvania...."

Died abt 1944 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, USA.
