Mary was born in 1853 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was the daughter of Robert Nicholson and Anne Elizabeth Hannah. On February 15, 1876, she married Archibald Hargrove Mitcham. They had 5 children, 4 whom survived infancy. By 1900 they had moved to Wayne County, North Carolina. It was here she passed away in 1917. She is buried at the Willow Dale Cemetery.
