Dorothy Lee Nicholson Hooper was born April 20, 1918, in Big Timber, Mont., to Stuart and Alvhild Nicholson.
Dorothy's parents owned and operated the McLeod general store, cabins, swimming pool and dance hall. She and her four siblings grew up there, went to school there, labored and enjoyed all of the aspects of such a public place. Dorothy and Duane Hooper were married in 1940 and had 66 years together. They worked side by side raising mink on the Boulder River south of Big Timber, ran an outfitting business that accommodated hunters from all over the U.S. and in the late ‘60s, developed what is now Spring Creek Camp.
Dorothy worked hard all of her life; she was a true companion, and a loving mother. She enjoyed her friends and family. She loved to swim, to take a good walk and especially loved to dance! Her healthy lifestyle gave her 95 years.
Dorothy passed away on May 4, 2013, of congestive heart failure.
She is survived by her son, John, daughter, Janie (Chuck) Karnop, granddaughter, JoAnne (Chris) Graff, grandson, Jed Hooper, great-granddaughter, Lauren Anne Graff; and her brother, John (Anna Mae) Nicholson, all of Bozeman, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane (2007), her parents, her two brothers (Walter and Charles Nicholson) and her sister (Margaret Nicholson Brown).
A celebration of Dorothy's long wonderful life will be announced.
