Biography
Elizabeth was born in 1800 daughter to James Nicol and Catherine Croal in the parish of Panbride. Panbride OPR see also [2]
On the 22nd and 24th January 1837 banns were called at Panbride Church for the intended marriage of Elizabeth to widower James Renny both resident in that parish. [1]
They moved to Panlathy Mill where James was a ploughman and there they had two son born. At Whitsunday term 1841 they moved farm to nearby West Balmirmar.The family there in 1841 comprises James and Elizabeth with Margaret and Jean from his fist marriage and James and the new born Joseph of the second along with 73 year old Catherine Croal her mother.[2]
Daughter Hannah was born at Hillhead of Balmirmar at the start of 1844.
By Elizabeth Nicol James Renny had children:
1. James b. 1839 mar. Margaret Mann
2. Joseph b. 1841
3. Hannah b.1844 mar. Charles Carrie
They remained at Balmirmar for over ten years when James was an agricultural labourer. In 1851 there they had the three children of their marriage at home along with the aged Catherine Croal. [3]
By 1861 they were still in the parish of Arbirlot but had moved to Bonnington farm and had no dependants left at home. [4]
On 24 Aug 1874, James died aged 74 at Bonnington, his son-in-law Charles Carrie reported his death. [5]
Elizabeth Nicol survived him and three years later died on 16 Aug 1877 at Bonnington.[6]
